A connector between implant and prosthesis
A multi-unit abutment is an intermediate component attached to an implant. The full-arch prosthesis is then connected at the abutment level rather than directly to each implant. This can create a common restorative platform for a screw-retained prosthesis.
Why straight and angled options exist
Implants sometimes need different angulations because of bone and anatomy. Straight or angled multi-unit abutments can help manage restorative access and bring the prosthetic connection to a planned level. They do not correct every unfavourable implant position.
How height is selected
Collar height is chosen around tissue thickness, implant depth, cleansability and restorative space. A component that is too deep, too high or poorly positioned can complicate tissue management, hygiene or prosthetic design.
Their role in the digital workflow
Scan bodies, temporary cylinders and definitive components can connect to the multi-unit level. The laboratory then designs the provisional or final prosthesis from a verified record of those positions.
What patients should understand
Multi-unit abutments are internal components, not a treatment package or proof of immediate teeth. The overall result still depends on diagnosis, implant stability, prosthetic design, fit, bite, hygiene and maintenance.
Possible maintenance
Screw loosening, wear, tissue inflammation or prosthetic complications can occur. A screw-retained design may help the clinical team retrieve the prosthesis for assessment or repair, but it still requires professional review.
When BioHorizons components are relevant
When a BioHorizons implant and prosthetic system is selected for the individual case, compatible straight or angled multi-unit components may form part of the restorative plan. Component choice must follow the exact implant platform, official instructions and clinical judgment.
