What is a multi-unit abutment?
A multi-unit abutment is used in many multi-implant restorations, including selected full-arch cases. It can establish a restorative platform according to the system, implant positions and angulations, and the prosthetic plan.
What is a custom titanium abutment?
Its shape is designed for a particular situation rather than relying only on a prefabricated form. It may provide control over the contour where the restoration emerges through the gum and how the restoration is supported. Custom does not automatically mean better; prefabricated components are appropriate in many cases.
Are these interchangeable alternatives?
Not necessarily. The role of a multi-unit platform in a multi-implant restoration differs from customizing an abutment for a particular crown or restoration. Prosthesis design, connection level and approved components determine the appropriate pathway.
