The workflow starts with the intended restoration

Digital implant prosthetics should begin with the tooth or full-arch result the patient needs. Photographs, scans, bite records and the clinical examination define appearance, function, material space and hygiene before a final design is approved.

Recording the mouth and implant positions

An intraoral scanner may record teeth and accessible soft tissues. Implant or multi-unit positions are recorded through compatible scan bodies. Full-arch records are technique-sensitive, so seating, scan strategy and data quality need careful review.

Verification before design

A visually complete scan is not automatically an accurate record. The team may use repeated scans, splinted verification, photogrammetry, a conventional jig, clinical inspection or radiographs when indicated. Uncertain data should be repeated before manufacturing.

What Exocad contributes

Exocad is one example of dental design software that can support the laboratory and clinical team in designing provisional teeth, custom abutments, screw-retained restorations and bars. The software helps organize the design; it does not diagnose the patient or prove that a component fits clinically.

What CAD and CAM mean

CAD is the computer-aided design stage. CAM is the manufacturing stage, such as milling or printing an approved design. Material, machine, manufacturing strategy and quality control influence the physical result, so a precise-looking file still needs a controlled production route.

From provisional learning to definitive design

Information from the temporary prosthesis can guide changes in tooth length, smile, speech, bite and cleaning. The definitive restoration is then designed around verified implant positions, healed tissues, material thickness and the maintenance plan.

Clinical delivery closes the loop

The final prosthesis is checked for seating, screw access, bite, appearance, speech and hygiene. A digital workflow is complete only when the clinical result is verified and the patient receives clear cleaning and maintenance instructions.

Digital does not have to mean digital-only

A combined workflow may be safer when a conventional record or verification step answers a question more reliably. The goal is not to use the greatest number of technologies; it is to use the right records and checks for the individual case.
